Butterfly Garden Hours

The Butterfly Garden will be closed September 21–25 for annual maintenance and will open at 1 p.m. September 29–October 2.

Ropes Course Hours

The Ropes Course will open late and close early on select dates in September and October. Please check the museum events calendar for specific dates and operating hours. The Ropes Course will be closed October 19–23 for annual maintenance.

Ages 7 to 11: Saturday, October 3, 10 to 11 a.m.

Celebrate the opening of Wallace & Gromit™ and Shaun the Sheep™: Shear Genius! by learning the art of stop-motion animation. In this fun, hands-on workshop, you'll create your own storyline, capture scenes, and produce a short animated film.

All attendees must purchase a ticket, and all supplies are included. Participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone or tablet to save their project and continue editing at home. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who must also be registered for the program. Space is limited.

Get ready for Halloween with this frightfully fun workshop! Learn how to transform from ordinary to extraordinary with guidance from a professional makeup artist. Participants will explore face-painting techniques, learn how to add depth and dimension, and experiment with creative effects while creating Halloween-inspired looks. Whether you want to become Frankenstein’s monster, a wicked witch, a frog, or another imaginative character, you'll gain the skills to make your costume stand out and turn heads this Halloween. This workshop is for guests ages 10 and older. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 16 and must also register for the program.

Lego Building Workshop

Join the Rochester City LEGO User Group for a LEGO workshop at the Strong’s Play Lab. Experienced LEGO builders will teach guests how to create a miniature arcade machine using LEGO bricks inspired by the museum’s Video Game Hall of Fame! Participants will receive all the pieces they need and will be led step by step through the building process. At the end of the workshop, all participants can take their sets home to deconstruct and rebuild over and over again! Must be age 8 or older.
